PVHS Marching Band scored ‘Superior’ in concert festival
Powdersville High School Marching Band scored “Superior with Distinction” in the SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment (formerly concert festival) held last March 16, 2016 at Liberty High School.
This is the third year in a row that PVHS Marching Band has have been awarded a “Superior with Distinction”.
They performed three specific pieces of music in front of 3 adjudicators who had the conductor’s scores to look at and judge the band based on what the composer wrote in those scores. Scoring on a scale of 1-5 (in 7 categories by each of the 3 judges) with 1 being Superior. After playing their prepared pieces, the students then we go to another room with another set of 2 judges. They are given a new piece of music that they have never seen before, and the director is given 6 minutes to teach it (without playing) to the kids. After that 6 minutes, they play that new piece for the judges and are rated on that.
PVHS Concert Band earned a score of (1) or Superior from all 5 judges, or “Superior with Distinction”. This year for the first time, SCBDA has implemented an invitation only State Concert Festival. In order to be invited, your band must perform at least level 4 music and get a Superior with Distinction. PVHS is one of 16 bands that will be invited to perform at the next level. The State Concert Perfomance Assessment will take place on May 7th at Irmo High School.
